SILENCE

SONNETS OF EXPERIENCE

SILENCE

That most beautiful lady of liberation,
Dispels the darkness that obscures Realisation.
Whatever labours fate forces you to complete,
Cherish as pure gold the worship of her lotus feet.
In her presence, don't raise ego as `I',
Or a glimpse of her face she'll surely belie.
If you remain subject to her domination
She will unite errant jiva with Self Realisation,
Harmoniously and with blissful delight,
Embrace her at heart with all of your might.
Let your life in a state of Oneness and bliss,
Be a model for others they never dare miss.
So be One with Lady Mouna deep in the heart,
The best possible dharma, till death do us part.

RED ROSE

SONNETS OF EXPERIENCE

RED ROSE

In the deep frozen heap of winter snow,
I turn my mind to fragrant summer flowers,
Ruby red roses grow and warmly glow,
Brightening blessed golden sunshine hours.
I reflect these are pictures on my screen
Of consciousness, bright light-paintings divine.
Perhaps as the Sages say 'life is but a deam",
While my blood red roses still rejoicing, shine.

A pilgrim strolled through his garden green,
And sensed the fragrance of the roses there,
He picked a ruddy bloom with velvet sheen,
To place on the altar of his God where
He prayed and worshiped every day.
A  rose had come to serve in God's own play.

NATARAJAN

NATARAJAN

Grand symphony of life, music of the spheres,
Unfolds like Shiva's dance, stamping on my breast;
Aware, one feels a martial drumming beat, and hears
Joyful rhythm that cheers the heart, and I am blest.

His footprints leave a lesson on my book of time,
They make a mark on my inconscient wall,
To learn from, so that soul may swiftly climb,
To conquer life's mysterious enigmatic All.

I ascend on eagle's wings into the great unknown,
Lord Shiva steers my flight through bliss and pain,
In this paradoxical way I'm stretched and grown,
Yet his merciful bliss soon soothes my nervous pain.

Let's give thanks and praise for Lord Shiva's cosmic dance,
Grounding arrogant ego into chalky powdered dust,
It's predetermined, nothing is left to random chance,
It's choreographed, infinitely wise, precise and just.

EUTOPIA BROADCAST

Dear Friends,

I am broadcasting on Celestial Radio (www.) tomorrow at 11:00 am UK Time) on my recently published Novella, EUTOPIA, a fictional adventure story describing an ideal society that is lived from higher principles.

There is 6 minutes of music first and it is possible to click Listen Again for one week and choose Thursday 11 am.

Here is a review from a reader.

Eutopia: The Gnostic Land of Prester John (Paperback)
Vedanta, Teenage sex, Hospice, Realization, Arts, Paintings, History, Poetry, Religions, Adventures, Wisdom,

Philosophy and Enlightenment are few of the subjects
that are well covered by this British author.

Captivating from beginning to the end, the reader cannot afford to miss any paragraph.

Your visualisation will be on gear from the very beginning. Actually, during the first few chapters,

I had to put the book down and laugh out loud more than a couple of times.

Justin Hart is the name assumed by the adventurer but what is in the name?

Name really offers the prelude to his ultimatum of profound learning.

I congratulate this very knowledgible author for well blending of eastern wisdom with Prester John's teachings.

A must read for anyone who is seeking for the answers!

ENNUI

SONNETS OF EXPERIENCE

ENNUI

Bored ego weaves willful wiles for willing hands,
Day dreaming mind wandering in fantasy lands.
Energy's sapped and a wicked waste of time,
Better to dwell in the blissful state sublime,
Of Surrender to the Sat-Guru in the heart,
Or making Self Enquiry, the great infallible art
To reach Self Realisation before we depart
The sad dream of playing an ignorant part,
In what amounts to morbid and mundane pain.
So we determine never ever ever again,
To waste valid hours in foolish idle pursuits
Which often end up in sour and bitter fruits.
The moral of this sonnet is abundantly clear,
Sadhana's freedom's path and the death of fear.

MOTHER DIVINE

FROM ALAN JACOBS ADVAITA VEDANTA

SONNETS OF EXPERIENCE

MOTHER DIVINE

Sweet Mother Divine waits at heart's doorway,
When she sees time is ripe she takes a peep.
That's the red rose dawn of awakening's day,
When she'll rouse us up from life's dark sleep.
She's full of mercy compassion and love,
Watching and guiding us from high up above.
She enters our hearts with a massive leap,
Pushing vasanas out with an almighty shove.

Poor pilgrim struggled hard for years and years,
Performing sadhana with faith and zeal.
Then Mother Divine, this duty is her's,
Took pity and came, his sad soul to heal.
Dear Mother Divine loves the true devotee,
She comes when she pleases to set him free .

LIFE'S MYSTERY

SONNETS OF EXPERIENCE

LIFE'S MYSTERY

Ah sweet mystery of life at last we've found thee! All hail
Bright Sun of Self ! By vasanas hiding behind a veil.
For our soul's development, you preordained our life.
Now we're on the razor's edge, sharp as a well honed knife,

Strong effort of Self Enquiry, along with Surrendering
The egotistic mind, are gladly practiced, thus rendering,
And scattering those dark black clouds away, revealing
The great light of Self filled with blissful love and healing.

So we surrender without precondition or demand,
Worry and fear must end for ever now. Out of hand.
We leave all cares to God in every possible way,
But aim to do the very best we can each single day.

So we let go of the past, it was only a pack of  dreams,
As all that which appears is not exactly what it seems!

CHOCK A BLOCK

SONNETS OF EXPERIENCE

CHOCK A BLOCK
Life's chock a block with many distractions,
Like pretty baubles with bags of attractions,
All sent to tempt us from the Holy Task.
What is that? you may very well ask.
To pose the essential question 'Who Am I'?
Is our most needed task before we die.
Sadhak climbed upwards on the Mountain Way,
He spotted a beautiful girl one day,
And quickly stopped to chat and spend the time.
He'd forgotten the sacred purpose of his climb,
To reach the Heart of Self and then be free.
He married, and spawned a binding family.
So if its enlightenment that we truly desire
We must work hard for freedom or else expire

WAKE UP FROM SLEEP

FROM ALAN JACOBS ADVAITA VEDANTA PAGE

SONNETS OF EXPERIENCE

WAKE UP FROM SLEEP

From heavenly space lightening strikes,
Its power shocks mankind with mighty force.
It's the epic emblem for Brahman of course,
To waken sleeper from dreams he dislikes,
Bathing in crass ignorance and harshest pain,
Unaware of truth and set to be born again.
From a cosmic standpoint we're all insane,
It offends the Sage's blessed no-mind brain,
To doze on this madcap lunatic planet earth,
And suffer yet another roller coaster birth.
So wake up from this nasty nightmare death,
By patiently enquiring with all of one's breath,
Posing the great koanic question 'Who Am I' ?
Praying to know one's real truth before we die.

LIFE BOAT

SONNETS OF EXPERIENCE

LIFE BOAT

The confused errant soul in life's frail boat,
Is steered by dear Guru who keeps it afloat,
To lead him cross the stormy sea of dreams,
For a better safer shore where it seems
He or she Realises their eternal Self,
No more tyrannised by ego demon elf,
Threatening to sink the weak boat in time.

So brave sailor struggles hard in his prime,
Obeying dear Guru's voice rowing onto shore,
Remembering his Self, and what is more,
Surrendering all to Guru deep in heart,
And from his guide he'll never ever part.
Soon he reaches the land of perfect love,
Eternally grateful to his great Lord above.

TWO METAPHYSICAL SONNETS

SONNETS OF EXPERIENCE

METAPHYSICS

1

SONNETS  METAPHYSICAL
Proud Philosophy proposed to Poetry pure,
Coaxing, cajoling her to serve him as his Queen.
Reluctant, she succumbed, hair-dragged to his lair,
Lured and bedded behind his mental screen.
Uneasy waged their wedlock, heavily hard to bear
Her fairy fancies with his rigid thought machine.
Divorce seemed certain, until from who knows where?
Fourteen lines of metre meandered on the scene.
Metaphysical sonnets solved their crisis soon
To knit ideas with verses in a subtle form.
He shone as Sun, she swanned as silver Moon,
Reflecting wisdom in stanzas, heartfelt, warm.
They grabbed the avid reader like a thunder storm,
Metaphysical sonnets became a cultural norm.
2

METAPHYSICS
In this persistent panasonic panorama called life,
The sharp steel of destiny cuts through each like a surgeons knife.
Inside each errant soul on earth down a vertical line,
Their predestined karma unfolds in course of time,
Invisible to the dreamer observing this mundane game.
Yet a horizontal coloured picture's formed just the same,
Events flash by like cinema films on pure awareness' screen,
But those observed events aren't exactly what they seem.
Mad mankind is baffled by wierd world's horrific drama,
The answer's in understanding this phantastic cyclorama.
If this perverted wandering monkey mind we wish to heal,
Contemplate and meditate that this world is not really real.
In this khaki field of karma all things happen for the best,
As we can't perceive 'THAT' let worldly problems have a good rest.

LOGIC CHOPPING

SONNETS OF EXPERIENCE

LOGIC CHOPPING

Whether it be a pot or heavy lump of clay,
Or the microcosmic atom in my breath,
Whether it be smoke, fire or mountain way,
Will any serve as a cure for painful death?
I‘m only blocking love by logic chopping,
I must bow to praise Sri Bhagavan's feet.
But monkey mind keeps dropping off, hopping,

Instead of abiding in His bliss replete.
The heavy weight of reason and causation,
Will never take me to Self Realisation,
Instead they lead to endless frustration,
A kind of morbid mental perturbation.
I take refuge in Sri Bhagavan's grace
Inside my heart, true Saviour of the race.

DIVINE HARMONY

SONNETS OF EXPERIENCE

DIVINE HARMONY

Love's harmony dwells in sweet unstruck music,
Heard in the spiritual heart by all whose ears,
Are tuned into this subtle sacred angelic art,
And hear ethereal rhythms from galactic spheres,
There are no words to describe this awesome sound.
Once heard prison walls of selfishness all fall down,
And blissful inner feelings in unison resound
With holy joy, bestowing love's most precious crown.
A deaf mute deprived of hearing and vocal speech,
Prayed to hear the magic of a chanting human voice.
God in His mercy which he always grants to each,
Cured his ailment so the poor man could now rejoice.
The highest form of music to him was then revealed,
By such harmony divine, his affliction was healed.

DEVOTION

FROM ALAN JACOBS ADVAITA VEDANTA

SONNETS OF EXPERIENCE

DEVOTION
The Self is dear to all as perfect love,
Unbroken devotion a stream of purest oil,
Our Sage finds Self within like God above.
His child  after hard and persistent toil,
Finds ego's most resistant mind soon melts,
Sadhak finds certain faith in God alone.
This golden flowing stream of love smelts
Foul dross, his heart's desire becomes his own.
They who once linked form to God's Holy Name,
In time transcends that image just the same.
With Bhakti ripe and hearing Truth complete,
Heart's blossom on the bough flowers replete.
In love with that one most truthful emotion,
They sprout a fresh white lotus of pure devotion.

WINTER

SONNETS OF EXPERIENCE

WINTER

The wintry sun pours through my window frame
Opening wide to an endless sky of saphire blue,
Snow drops are sparkling with diamonds of dew.
My heart hymns praise to Him without a Name,
A love for Self and all are equally the same.
I draw the curtain in my room enlarge the view,
From tattered folds, a powdery dust soon flew
Across the scene obscuring sunlight's flame.
As cloud did clear I saw each dusty grain,
Like a world held in a solar radiant beam,
Universes in Brahman's mighty magic dream.
My mind fell in my heart no words can explain;
I am the light, the sun, the room, the view,
The dust, the Self, Brahman, and so are you.

THE HOLY TASK

FROM ALAN JACOBS ADVAITA VEDANTA ON FACE BOOK

SONNETS OF EXPERIENCE

THE HOLY TASK
Spiritual heart and intelligence well knows,
But ego mind betrays us and delivers blows.
When will this holy war cease in perfect peace,
And the Grace of the Guru grant us release?
Thiat's an earnest question each sadhak must ask
As he ploughs the hard ground of the holy task.
Self enquiry and devotional surrender,
Are certain ways for ego mind to render
Itself at feet of Sat Guru in the Heart,
Who's promised he'll never ever depart,
All earnestly practicing his wondrous teaching,
Which from Arunachala he was ever preaching.
So we continue to strive at the Holy Task,
Who Am I? is the urgent question we must ask.

CRAZY LIKE A HORSE

FROM ALAN JACOBS ADVAITA VEDANTA

SONNETS OF EXPERIENCE

CRAZY LIKE A HORSE
Tame the wild horse stallion of the racing mind,
Break him in with reins of breath control and japa,
'Whip him with rigorous vigour' said Lord Krishna.
Such words in Great Sages writings we often find,
Blinker the mad colt so he'll never look behind.
Mind control was taught by Bhagavan Ramana,
Essential part of his great teaching sadhana.
Mind will lead you astray like blind lead the blind,
He'll gallop off madly, so tie him down and bind.
A gallant rider journeyed on his pilgrim way,
The rebellious horse bolted and off he fell,
He knew he must train this bad nag that very day,
Or else riding him would become the sheerest hell.
So we control the errant mind as well we may,
And enjoy the ride while in life's strange dream we play.

END CONFUSION

FROM ALAN  JACOBS ADVAITA VEDANTA ON FACE BOOK

SONNETS OF EXPERIENCE

END CONFUSION

Once and for all, end chronic confusion,
Brahman is Real the world's an illusion.
We're tricked by six senses and fickle mind,
There's nothing truly lasting here to find.
All's a mirage of mobile flux and change,
Beyond our limited perceptual range,
The planet's perishing and in decay,
But Reality's unchanged in every way.
Sadhak met a Sage on a mountain preaching,
Gladly he asked "Give me some good teaching".
He answered "all you see isn't as it seems,
The life you live is like a film of dreams,
So wake up child from this sleep of delusion
Once and for all end chaotic confusion"

CHILDREN IN THE DARK

SONNETS OF EXPERIENCE

CHILDREN IN THE DARK
We're like bad children in the black of night,
The brilliance of Brahman Self's sunlight,
Is darkly veiled by vasanas and mind.
To awaken from this dream we need find
Great Truth granted by our Sat Guru inside,
Whom in our spiritual heart does well abide.
He says "Surrender and Self Enquire within,
Then I'll save you from such egotistic sin,
Soon you'll awaken to enlightened bliss,
Heralded by Divine Mother's loving kiss.
So never ever suffer from sad despair,
I'm within you and I am everywhere.
My name dear child is Bhagavan Ramana,
I'm here to free you from this dread samsara".

SAMSARA

FROM ALAN JACOBS ADVAITA VEDANTA PAGE

SONNETS OF EXPERIENCE

SAMSARA
How to escape dread sadness of samsara,
Continuous cycle of death and rebirth?
A vital question for wise women and men,
Who struggle might and main for all their worth,
In this complex life yet to be born again.
The answer's been stated throughout the ages.
Simplest is that of Bhagavan Ramana,
Known to be one of the highest Sages,
Who teaches surrender and atma vichara,
To rid us of demonic ego mind,
Leading us on to sat chit ananda,
Which in bliss of Self Realisation we shall find.
So sing the praises of Great Sri Ramana,
Mighty Sage who taught from Arunachala.

SPORT

Sport

He is out today.
Every bird is singing his name
every tendril towards him yearns,
each drop of morning dew
reflects the ocean of his grandeur.
The curtain of blue has lifted
to reveal a glory of Sun resplendent.
Sometimes behind a gloomy cloud
He hides in mischief sulking.
But having glimpsed in undergrowth
the hem of his robe, I know
that he is somewhere about
and enjoying the play.

Look who just flew into the room
in food-moth form!
searching for a flame
in which to be consumed.
Sometimes you wrap
Yourself in a cloak of pain
to chisel away at my basalt rock
an image of thy Name
and other days you send
a Cup of nectar
for my honeybee soul to humbly sip.

SONNETS OF EXPERIENCE

GREAT FAITH

Take the deep leap into firm certainty of faith,
With determined unshakeable fearlessness!
Let blessed mount Arunachala be our shield,
Against sense storms of restless rebel mind.
Enjoy wholly untroubled carefree satvic calm,
By handing over our whole fictional burden
Of worry, concern stress and fancied anxiety,
About preordained duties and many affairs,
To our Lord of Love and infinite compassion,
Bhagavan Sri Ramana, Self of our own Being,
To whom we've unconditionally surrendered,
Taking refuge in the spiritual heart with devotion.
Even tribulation is welcomed as for the best!
We gain mind control through Japa of His Name,
And dive into the Heart, questing for source of 'I',
Full of gratitude for his boundless love and grace.

BE PATIENT

FROM ALAN JACOBS ADVAITA VEDANTA PAGE

SONNETS OF EXPERIENCE

BE PATIENT
While we wait quietly in our Guru's tigers jaws,
We'll soon discover that he takes plenty of time,
Because he follows his own wise sagacious laws.
When we're prepared, ready to know the the sublime,
He'll lead us into our spiritual heart one blessed day,
When the nadis are well attuned to bear the power,
Of pure consciousness awareness' auspicious way,
To know 'That' each second and moment every hour.
Then if earnestly to our Self we give attention,
Vasanas and latent tendencies will be destroyed,
No longer will ego mind annoy us by their retention,
And joy of sat chit ananda be no longer cloyed.
So don't be troubled by being clasped in the tigers jaws,
Just be patient and keep still between his paws and claws.

ALL IS VANITY

FROM ALAN JACOBS ADVAITA VEDANTA PAGE CLICK LIKE TO JOIN- FOR RAMANA DEVOTEES

SONNETS OF EXPERIENCE

ALL IS VANITY
Vanity vanity all is vanity,
How on earth shall we save our sanity,
Slaves of perverted parrot mind?
The highest teaching one must surely find,
That of Great Sri Bhagavan Ramana,
And then practice his sacred sadhana.
Surrender and Self Enquiry are His way,
To be practiced earnestly every day.
Then one glorious dawn we'll feel free
From bonds of samsara plaguing the 'me'.
In a nut shell our Self is always there,
But veiled by dark clouds in murky air.
To remove that obscuration is our task,
What more can a human being crave or ask?

THE ARCH USURPER

FROM ALAN JACOBS ADVAITA VEDANTA ON FACE BOOK

SONNETS OF EXPERIENCE

THE ARCH USURPER
To claim I am the sole doer all alone,
Is the cardinal crime of woman and man;
It means that ego's usurped God's throne.
To be free of this grave sin, if we can,
Surrender ego mind at His lotus feet,
Then Self Enquire with all of one's might.
This way we'll become whole and complete,
Revealing Self source of truth and light.
The Universe is held in Brahman's arms,
In joyful bliss of sat chit ananada,
Devotees are blest by Bhagavan's charms,
Inside our hearts dwells Great Lord Ramana.
Let him take over our whole burden of life,
This way we end all mental stress and strife.

THE SPIRITUAL SIGNIFICANCE OF WESTERN CLASSICAL MUSIC

In western classical music, the melodic harmonious scale discovered by the Pythagoreans called the diapason, musical scale, or octave, corresponds with the essential harmony inherent in the Soul of mankind.
Every note struck by a musical instrument touches its correspondence in the emotions of the soul, and when this is in harmony, evokes a feeling of delight and pleasurable contentment.
Each musical instrument sounds a different voice in this magnificent symphony. This is why Classical Music is healing and therapeutic. If there is too much dissonance it becomes disturbing.
One day while meditating upon the problem of harmony, Pythagoras chanced to pass a brazier's shop where workmen were pounding out a piece of metal upon an anvil. By noting the variances in pitch between the sounds made by large hammers and those made by smaller implements, and carefully estimating the harmonies and discords resulting from combinations of these sounds, he gained his first clue to the musical intervals of the diatonic scale. He entered the shop, and after carefully examining the tools and making mental note of their weights, returned to his own house and constructed an arm of wood so that it: extended out from the wall of his room. At regular intervals along this arm he attached four cords, all of like composition, size, and weight. To the first of these he attached a twelve-pound weight, to the second a nine-pound weight, to the third an eight-pound weight, and to the fourth a six-pound weight. These different weights corresponded to the sizes of the braziers' hammers.
P.D.Ouspensky notes in his book The Search For The Miraculous that if you divide 7 into 10 you arrive at the ratios of the musical scale which coincide with the construction of the Sufi Enneagram. (see Wikipaedia for notes on the Enneagram)
To a degree music is rooted in Nature, that is in bird song, the babbling brook, waves breaking on the sea shore, the rustle of leaves in trees, and certain animal sounds. In man, as part of nature there is the desire to dance and sing when happy.
The ancients believed that the movement of planets created a music of the spheres. Mystics like Kabir heard the 'unstruck music' deep in the spiritual heart; and heaven is often envisaged as a region where angels play musical instruments and sing.
Probably the most conspicuous ancient thought about music is the doctrine of ethos, which describes the effects of sound on human behaviour and therefore its moral influence. Aristotle, in his Politics, explains how the different kinds of music, imitating specific feelings (anger, kindness, love), can affect a human being with the same kind of feelings. Therefore, says Aristotle, someone who listens to the wrong kind of music will grow up to a bad person, and vice-versa. Consequently, Aristotle (and also Plato) recommended the right kind of music in the education of young citizens. The doctrine of Ethos describes the effects of music on the human soul.
Sacred Music lies in the holy melodies of plainsong and polyphony and to-day we have Church Music and the great Symphonic Masses. Oratorios and Requiems.
Atonality and excessive discordance without melody and harmony are disturbing to the Soul and are listened to with difficulty.
Lawrence Ball has wriiten that any form of music can be used for meditation. The important thing is that it should not disturb one's attention from becoming aware of itself. It establishes an "energy discussion" with the deep unarticulated realm of experience. If music can assist in taking a large percentage of attention off itself into the interior of the Self, then it can be particularly useful.
Schopenhauer one of the few Philosophers who have written about the metaphysics of music says that melody is the soul of music. So melody pleases us greatly as it is the composer's soul speaking to our soul.

GOLDEN ROAD TO SAMAKAND

THE GOLDEN ROAD TO SAMAKAND

PROEM

Sweet to ride forth at evening from the wells,
When shadows pass gigantic on the sand,
And softly through the silence beat the bells,
Along the Golden Road to Samarkand.

We travel not for trafficking alone;
By hotter winds our fiery hearts are fanned:
For love of knowing what should not be known,
We take the Golden Road to Samarkand.

James Elroy Flecker

FROM THE GOLDEN ROAD TO SAMARKAND

We're carted in a cosy caravan of dreams,
Driving fast across vast desert waste.
Nothing we see is exactly as it seems,
From mirage to death we race in reckless haste.
The Master Sheikh cries "wake up you sleepy one,
Within you shines the Great Almighty Sun!".

A boy had cause to cross that golden sand,
To find his fond father in Samarkand.
His journey was beset by many trials,
The brave lad trekked for miles and miles.
He trudged on when all seemed sadly lost,
He persisted regardless of all human cost.
Grace came in camel shape, the beast had strayed,
So back to his father, his way was safely made!

The fierce blazing heat of noon-day Sun,
Afflicts each caravan on its lonely way.
The camels yearn for water, but there is none,
Until they reach some oasis, one blessed day.

The Sheikh cries "The Sun is like God's will,
Driving your caravan across the golden sand;
Water's like Real Truth, which you need to fill
Your heart, and cut your knot of bondage band!"

A traveller traversed across that desert plane,
Soon he became thirsty from the blazing heat,
He prayed for water from a fall of rain,
To save his life, his journey then complete.
He glimpsed an oasis, 'twas a mirage it seems,
Such is our wasted life, a caravan of dreams!

The Sheikh calls "come to my tavern, there drink
The ecstatic ruby wine of love divine!
Enquire into who's that one who thinks?
Soon you'll find your inner Sun sublime,
That lights your mind of wandering dreams,
And makes you see a world that only seems
As Real, when its all a false delusion;
That's the very root of mind's illusion!"

A pilgrim knocked hard at the tavern door,
Alas he found it locked and firmly closed.
No answer came although he did implore
The Sheikh to help in what he then proposed.
Then he heard a voice within the tavern cry,
"My son, to ego mind, you first must die!"

The One Eternal Sheikh is our blessed Self,
Not treacherous, perverted monkey mind,
Like some diabolic demonic elf,
It flits from every tree to tree it finds.

So hearken to the wisdom of one's Master Sheikh,
As he teaches freedom and the way to wake.
The Sheikh in the desert on the golden way
Frees us from the bleak jail of every day.

A man met his Master one blessed day,
And enquired, "how free myself from 'mind'?"
The Master said "if you turn within my way,
In search of your own false self you'll surely find,
The real freedom you so urgently desire,
Be reborn again in God's great sacred fire!"

HOMEWARD BOUND

FROM ALAN JACOBS ADVAITA VEDANTA

SONNETS OF EXPERIENCE

HOMEWARD BOUND

"Sadhak, from your true home you've badly strayed,
Your haven the Self is a bright light displayed,
You've become lost in sad egotistic thought,
Your own Real Self Divine must again be sought.
Be like the prodigal son and come back home,
You'll be welcomed never more again to roam
From that fiery spark divine there in your heart,
From which in essence you must never depart".
The aspirant heard his wise master's sage word,
And like a quick faithful homing pigeon bird,
Flew back to enquire into his natural source,
An action pursued without shame or remorse.
He distinguished Self from ego's froth and foam,
And through Sat-Guru's Grace he found his way home.
MUSICAL SONATA

Great music moves us from darkness to light.
From basso profondo to treble height,
All's in harmony keyed with the whole,
Well performed it uplifts our jaded soul.
Classical music's a gift from God to man,
To raise his spirit while on his mortal span.
We must be grateful to all those who play,
To enliven us during each night and day.

A young violinist lifted high his bow,
Then played on the strings both quick and slow.
The sublime melody went straight to the heart,
Reminding us of great music's magic art.
We must ever be grateful for music on earth,
Well performed it grants soul a refreshing rebirth.

ECSTACY

FROM ALAN JACOBS ADVAITA VEDANTA

SONNETS OF EXPERIENCE

ECSTASY
Just be pure space for light to happen in,
And climb above the hurley burley of worldly din.
That globe is filled with heavenly joy and bliss,
Crowned by blessings of our Divine Mother's kiss.
Nothing can mark or mar that ecstatic state,
Which man must reach before it is too late,
Or be condemned to another life of toil,
In turmoil of the world dream ever on the boil.
Sadhak struggled for years and years to find
Real Self, to lose false ego which did bind
His soul in brazen band and iron chain.
He wandered down many a fenced off lane,
Then God inspired, deep inside himself he peered,
Brahman, that great almighty power soon appeared.

ROSE OF BEAUTY

FROM ALAN JACOBS ADVAITA VEDANTA

SONNETS OF EXPERIENCE

ROSE OF BEAUTY
I wished to write a poem of beauty and love,
A sonnet of homage to our great Lord above.
Beauty is our doorway to feel the Divine,
Red rose at sunset glows radiantly sublime;
It's perfume fills the air to refresh one's Being;
To see the rose in bloom is a grand gift of seeing.
It tells us God's pure Love that's unconditional,
We praise Him with all worship reverential.
A worried man walked along a busy street,
Lost in dreamlike thought, he saw nothing but his feet,
Until he passed a garden and glimpsed a blushing rose.
He felt, God bears my fears, he knows, he surely knows.
His burden became much lighter as he strolled along,
Singing quietly to himself a sweet devotional song.

IN A NUT SHELL

FROM ALAN JACOBS ADVAITA VEDANTA ON FACE BOOK

SONNETS OF EXPERIENCE

IN A NUT SHELL
With equanimity welcome all that happens as Grace,
If you like or dislike it, that's not the point each day.
As we want demonic ego mind to be quickly effaced,
Surrender is the best possible infallible way.
Combined with practice of Self Enquiry it's very strong,
And will bring the ardent devotee to Self Realisation,
Leading him away from bad tendencies sadly
wrong,
Removing all impurities necessary for liberation.
These are the golden keys of Sri Ramana's teaching,
With persistent determination the sadhak will find,
He'll enter the spiritual heart and soon be reaching,
The blessed bliss of sat chit ananda, heaven's kind.
This is the best practice clearly stated in a nut shell,
Our Holy Task is to make needed efforts often and well.

LONG POEMS FOR AWAKENING

Here is a Press release of my new Poetry Collection
LONG POEMS FOR AWAKENING

October 2012 will see the publication of Alan Jacob s Poems for Awakening. Aimed at readers who love classical poetry and
are interested in mind / body / spirit literature, these three long poems follow on from his previous collection 108 Sonnets
For Awakening and are especially written for those interested in or practic

ing a spiritual path of any denomination.
I have long been interested in spirituality and mysticism, and am currently the President of the Ramana Maharshi
Foundation, says Alan when talking about the inspiration behind his poems.
The first poem Zenda is a swashbuckling adventure story based on the famous novel the Prisoner of Zenda by Anthony
Hope. It raises the whole question of personal identity and is largely composed in Byronic Stanzas.
The Pearl Fishers is set in Sri Lanka and is an adventure story based around a Pearl Fishing Boy. Diving for pearls is a
metaphor for diving into the spiritual heart to find the pearl of great price . He is assisted by a Ferryman called
Skanda and Uma, his sister. The poem is composed in Spencerian Stanzas.
Ashtavakra is a saga based on the classical India Classic the Ashtavakra Gita which tells how the crippled Ashtavakra
brought King Janaka to self realisation. It is written in rhyming couplets in the manner of Rumi.
The last poet to tackle such themes was T.S Eliot, observes Alan, whose previous works include Poetry For the Spirit,
Peace of Mind, The Dalai Lama, Native American Wisdom, Mahatma Gandhi, Henry David Thoreau, Reflections, Mysterious London and
When Jesus Lived In India.
About the Author: Alan Jacobs lives in North London and was the proprietor of the Alan Jacobs Gallery, before retirement. Interested in
spirituality and mysticism from an early age, he is the current president of the Ramana Maharshi Foundation and a regular contributor to the
poetry magazine Reflections.
